    LINATE: NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Another close call on the runway, it seems like an endless bad joke, what is happening at Linate? Is it possible that since last October 8 there were 85 near aircraft collisions in Italy? Is it possible that the risk to fly is still so high? With what peace of mind can I catch the Monday morning flight to London? How can I allow my wife, my son Alessandro, my grand daughter Beatrice to be so worried.

How many times since that day I called Alessandro’s cell phone while he was travelling ,without him answering the phone. Also that morning of 11 months ago, my son Lorenzo’s cell phone did not answer. Each time I think of it is a strike to the heart and a desperation that needs to be hidden because others should not be disturb by our display intimate emotion..

Now enough is enough! We should do whatever it takes! We should look into a private airport for private planes that operates separately (the ex-military airport of Cameri, for example), in this way at least we will have one less worry. What should we do to see this never happens again? For eleven months, the Committee that I direct has been working so that the tragedy that struck us and the world would never be forgotten. We want to make ourselves available and lend a helping hand. How come that before nobody knew anything about near collision and now it happens so frequently. I would like someone to tell me if what happened yesterday with a near collision at Malpensa and the other 84 times in the last 11 months is standard procedure. I would like to understand who is responsible, I would like that the incapable leaders could be removed from their political positions, I would like that there will not be anymore evasion of responsibility, I would those accountable leaders to once look into the mirror and say, “I made a mistake, it is my fault and I will see that an accident like this never happens again”. Only with honesty and sincerity the problems will be resolved.BR
Don’t forget that every day you hold millions of lives in your hands.
Stop and reflect for a moment, tomorrow it could be your son that does not answer your cell phone call to him.
For the love of God, let us help each other.

  • Dear PaoloI was very pleased by your reflections. If nothing has changed we cannot just accept it! Thank you very much in the comittee for your exellent work so far. Even if we are far away from Italy, we are watching the news very closely. I´m frequently searcing the site for any kind of news about what is happening in Italy. Here in Norway there are scarcely any news about the lawsuit or the investigation.WE have lost our dear ones...........please don´t let it happen again in the same way anywhere !! With regards from Tor Ivar Heggelund

  • Dear Paolo, I was shocked to read how little has been done since that terrible day in 2001. It is astonishing how many near collisions have occured since then. What will it take for the Italian government to react ? Surely safety should be number 1 on the political agenda. Perhaps international recognition (via the media) will help to lobby the government. Are other airports in Europe exposed to the same high level of risk as Linate ? Which airports are not and why ? what procedures and devices have they implemented and why do the Italians not do the same ?. It is clear that economic drivers are not enough to influence the industry. A consolidated political driving force is the only answer. Good luck with the mission. Unfortunately, we receive very little information about the incident in Australia but fortunately your website provides excellent progress updates. Congratulations on your efforts to date and the level of support you have been able to receive. Keep up the good work. May all the victims rest in peace. They will never be forgotten.
