25th Anniversary of the Linate Tragedy
Dear all,
This year marks our 25th Anniversary.
A quarter of a century… an endless stretch of time, and yet, in reality, just a fleeting moment.
This important anniversary deserves to be celebrated in a meaningful way, with significant moments that will help us remember the years that have passed.
We have prepared an intense programme, somewhat different from previous years.
A very special Anniversary.
One to remember.
OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY
SUNDAY, 4 OCTOBER
As has now become a tradition, at 6.00 p.m. there will be a Gala Opera Concert at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, Via Conservatorio 12.
We specifically asked the Conservatory’s Management to keep the opera programme, which seems to be very much appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Mayor, Dr Giuseppe Sala, to the entire Milan City Council and to the Management of the Conservatory for offering us this wonderful opportunity.
As always, we will have all the seats we need available for family members, friends and acquaintances.
All tickets are free of charge.
In order to allocate the best possible seats, please let us know how many tickets you require no later than 25 September, by calling 380 1381577 / 339 3082849.
Please also note that you may collect your tickets on the evening of the concert at the Conservatory Hall.
Giovanna and other volunteers will be there from 5.00 p.m.to hand out the tickets.
This year, the Concert will not be the institutional part of the programme.
It will be a private musical event held in remembrance.
Thursday, 8 October, on the other hand, will be entirely dedicated to institutional commemorative events, with the participation of the highest authorities.
THURSDAY, 8 OCTOBER
A very intense day
For those who wish to attend, at 8.10 a.m. there will be a commemorative ceremony and a laying of flowers at the site of the accident, in the presence of the airport authorities and the senior management of SEA and SAS.
We will also have a large Scandinavian delegation, together with authorities and family members.
For family members travelling to Linate, buses will be available from the Bosco dei Faggi car park, providing direct and easy transportation to Linate Airport.
Family members may also travel directly to Linate by taking the M4 metro line.
At 8.30 a.m., at the Linate Center, a light breakfast will be offered to those who attended the 8.10 a.m. ceremony.
At 9.15 a.m., transfer by bus to the Bosco dei Faggi.
A large parking area will be available at the Bosco dei Faggi, both for those arriving early in the morning and for everyone attending the ceremonies later in the day.
At 10.00 a.m., Holy Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop of Milan, Monsignor Mario Delpini.
We know that the Mass at the Bosco is a very moving and emotional moment and is greatly appreciated by everyone, so let us hope that the weather will be kind to us.
(In the event of a forecast of severe bad weather, Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio. You will, of course, be informed well in advance.)
The ceremony will begin with the laying of the wreaths and the sounding of the Last Post.
This will be followed by the reading of the 118 names.
At the end of Mass:
Presentation of a video telling the story of the 25 years of commitment and dedication of the Comitato 8 Ottobre.
This will be followed by two songs performed by a musical group.
The commemorative speeches by the authorities present will then take place, following the official protocol order.
At the end of the speeches, there will be a short dance performance near the monument.
The ceremony is expected to end at approximately 11.45 a.m.
We should also be able to print a photobook for the Anniversary, featuring the most significant images from our 25 years.
One copy will be available for each family. If anyone would like additional copies, we do not yet know the exact cost, but it should not be a significant expense for those who wish to purchase one.
In order to organise the short commemorative ceremony at 8.10 a.m., as well as the transfers between the Bosco dei Faggi and the Airport, and vice versa, we need to know whether you will be attending no later than 25 September, by calling 380 1381577 / 339 3082849.
We look forward to seeing you again.
With a warm and affectionate embrace,
Adele
