16th Anniversary of the Linate Tragedy
Dear Friends,
Sixteen years have passed since the tragedy that struck us, and once again we are organizing a day of reflection and commemoration.
This year the hours for celebrating the anniversary have changed because October 8 falls on a Sunday and all the churches celebrate Sunday Mass.
It is impossible to reconcile the number of people attending Mass with the large number of our family members. There are no churches able to accommodate all of us and the usual Sunday churchgoers.
It was very difficult to attempt to find a solution that would allow us to have a church all to ourselves, as in the past years.
The only possible solution was celebrating a private Mass in early afternoon at Sant'Ambrogio to give us the possibility of going to the Bosco dei Faggi at a time of day that would allow family members who live farther away to return home that evening.
We're sure you understand the situation, which was beyond our control and required this change in plans. Here is the program:
Saturday, October 7
6:45 p.m. Commemorative concert at the La Scala Opera House
As always, the City of Milan has placed the La Scala Opera House at our disposal for the evening.

Sunday, October 8
3:00 p.m. Holy Mass at Sant’Ambrogio Basilica
Monsignor Carlo Faccendini, Episcopal Vicar for Milan, will celebrate Mass Music will be performed by the La Verdi Children's Choir of Milan (Standard-bearers of the various Municipalities and Associations who would like to attend Holy Mass will enter S. Ambrogio at 2:55 p.m. All Standard-bearers must gather near the main entrance of the church by 2:40 p.m.)
4:00 p.m. Transfer by bus for a visit to the "Bosco dei Faggi"
Flowers will be placed and a candle will be lit.
For the evening at the La Scala Opera house, each family of the victims will have 15 seats at their disposal. Admission is free.
To organize seat assignments, please let us know exactly how many seats you need by Friday, September 22. If the number is not sufficient, please let us know how many extra seats you need. We will do our best to satisfy all requests. For organizational reasons, seat assignment will be made based on the reservation date. You can pick up your tickets at the headquarters of Comitato 8 Ottobre at Via San Tomaso, 3, (MM1 Cairoli subway stop).
Like every year, SEA is helping us organize the commemoration and providing the buses for the trip from S. Ambrogio Basilica to "Bosco dei Faggi" and back.
As usual, parking at the Mario Pagano parking lot is free.
We suggest you take the Green Line of the Milan subway to reach Sant'Ambrogio Basilica more easily. The Sant'Ambrogio station is right in front of the Basilica.
